When I was a boy, I wanted to be Ian Curtis. And, still - many years since boyhood - part of me still does.

His lyrics, his struggles - his life - all of these have been an influence on my writing since the beginning - and I, occasionally, rely on the songs (the lyrics and mood of the music) of Joy Division to help me decide what to write next.

I was 7 years old when Ian Curtis took his life - it would be a few years later until I first heard his name - then, afterwards, I spent hours and hours listening and re-listening to "Unknown Pleasures" in my bedroom.

The music of Joy Division - including all that was Ian Curtis - remains important to me, today. I hope younger generations (who have no idea who I'm talking about) will visit YouTube and take a quick listen.
