Jimmy Loves It, But Everyone Else Thinks It Sucks - Ween. "Push Th' Little daisies"
It's Thursday, so it's time for "Jimmy Loves It, But Everyone Else Thinks It Sucks". Yay!
Today's selection came out 29 years ago - when it was first released I wondered how such a shitty and stupid song could ever be chosen for regular radio play (this is way before YouTube). And, I remember local DJs, while on the air, openly criticizing it.
It's Ween's "Push Th' Little Daisies" - a song I recognize as a masterpiece now. It frequently sneaks it's way into my daily playlist and it's a lot more fun of a listen than most of what I routinely listen to.
Two years after the release of "Push Th' Little Daisies", Ween released their next album, "Chocolate and Cheese". The direction and focus was very different from their first album - and much of it is brilliant. It was then I revisited their former work and, to my surprise, I started to "get it".
And - here is a really fun fact. Ween's album "Mollusk" was a very big inspiration for Stephen Hillenburg's "Spongebob Squarepants" (I suspect you've heard of it). Per an interview with Mr. Hillenburg - if there was no Ween, Spongebob may have never been realized. "Mollusk" is a very interesting album, to include the modern classic and one of my personal favorites, "Waving My Dick In The Wind".
So, here it is. It's Ween with the brilliant and often overlooked "Push Th' Little Daisies".
Jimmy loves it, I hope you enjoy it, but there is a high likelihood you'll think it sucks.
