Melancholy & My Love For Lana Del Rey

Hi All

On melancholic days it is not uncommon for the songs of Lana Del Rey to dominate all air molecules throughout my apartment and to bleed into the outside through open windows. Sometimes for a couple of hours - often for longer.

Melancholic to sometimes mean more introspective than sad and, on other days, to mean more sad than introspective. But, more often than not, introspection and sadness co-mingle and dance together beautifully on equal footing and with parallel grace across elaborate and flawless marble dance floors of memories and self-reflection. It is within this dancehall many poets find inspiration. And I am one of them.

My best writing never is birthed during times of great joy or overwhelming depression. Across these emotional landscapes, creativity slumbers. But, somewhere in-between, lies a creative space where tales of adventure, of monsters, of great loves found and lost and other meaningful and compelling narratives present themselves with splendid and blinding beauty - epic stories waiting to be composed and discovered.

For me, this in-between realm frequently includes the music of Lana Del Rey.

Here are a few of my favorites. And, I hope you enjoy them!
