Spotlight: Ann Gage

Hi All

This evening I am very excited to share the poems of Ann Gage on the Jimmy Broccoli page and website.

I first read Ann's poetry a few months ago and have followed her work since. Different than many poets and other writers (though similar to many of you I follow), Ann's posts consist of many different types of interesting content. She posts her poems, commentary, memes, posts that make me laugh, posts that make me think, and emotional posts to which I relate.

Ann reveals herself in her posts and shares small elements about her life and her thoughts. Ann allows others to get to know her little by little and at her own pace. And I'm so very glad I've taken the time to do so.

With great fanfare, I share two poems by Ann Gage on the Jimmy Broccoli page and website this evening. She is an amazing poet and an amazing person - and I look forward to continuing to get to know her. And I'm very glad to call her my friend.

Ann in her own words:

"I've been writing since I was 16. I've always enjoyed the little things in life and writing brings me much joy." ___________________

Mercy

The demon was up to his old tricks When down came the Angel of Mercy Demon had to think quick He knew it wouldn't be pretty Mercy called the demon out He started to shake And he began to shout The Earth rumbled in a quake "You have no power here Mercy So go on home, You have no power over me, I go where demons roam." “Demon I didn't come to fight, I only wanted to play a game. If I win, you leave tonight, If I lose, everything stays the same." The demon laughed and agreed "See that child, she has never cried, Not even at the age of two When her parents died, Now it's up to you." The demon smiled He knew Mercy was beat, He would scare that child And Mercy would bow in defeat. The demon shrieked and growled He got in the child's face He turned into a wolf and howled But the child never moved from her place. "My turn," said Mercy The Angel bent and whispered in her ear The demon was taken back When the child shed a tear, "Well demon, time to pack!" "No! It isn't fair! What did you say?" "I told her mommy and daddy are waiting for her to come home and play." So the demon left, and Mercy took the child home, To be with her parents and where the angels roam.

Change

It starts with a tiny little seed inside each and every one of us to make a change, Yeah it might start to feel a little strange But we have to do it for our children's sake, No one said life would be a piece of cake

I'm sick of flipping on the television to see the news Spewing out lies, hatred, and political views, I'm tired of seeing people being gunned down in our streets And homeless people going without enough food to eat

What happened to our humanity So many people living with vanity Bring back the days of yesterday When the world had a little more purity

It starts with a tiny little seed inside each and every one of us to make a change, Yeah it might start to feel a little strange But we have to do it for our children's sake, No one said life would be a piece of cake

I see 8 year-olds addicted to crack Parents dumping them off and never looking back People being killed over the color of their skin Hollywood demoralizing while sexualizing women

Fast paced sin is all around us now It's in our clothes It's under our skin We can't escape Everywhere I look, I see another victim of rape

It starts with a tiny little seed inside each and every one of us to make a change, Yeah it might start to feel a little strange But we have to do it for our children's sake, No one said life would be a piece of cake

We need a change in order for us to survive We want the human race to succeed and thrive But we are on a spiraling self-destructive path And if we don't change now It's going to end in a violent blood bath

It starts with a tiny little seed inside each and every one of us to make a change, Yeah it might start to feel a little strange But we have to do it for our children's sake, No one said life would be a piece of cake I

Be that seed that we need
