Spotlight: Melanie K. Graves

Hi All

It's a great day to shine the spotlight on an individual I find highly talented. It is an honor to share with you the poetry of Melanie K. Graves with you today!

Melanie and I first (virtually) met a couple of years ago (or has it been 3? Time goes by so quickly!) when I first joined an online poetry group for which she is a co-administrator. At that time, I was introduced to her written work - and have enjoyed it since.

Here is Melanie in her own words:

Since retiring to Florida in July 2017 from Ohio, I have been writing poetry. My first poetry book was published in November 2019. I find inspiration for poems in nature, the outdoors, everyday life, and people. I enjoy following professional sports. One thing in common with Jimmy is my love of animals.

Here is a poem by Melanie K. Graves - and, I'm certain you'll enjoy it as much as I do!

______________

If Peace Were Easy

I sit at the window and dream…

Focusing on a faraway tree.

Pondering one of life’s mysteries.

Expressions of sadness filter in.

As melancholy thoughts begin again.

Compassion for others will never win.

Everyone thinks of only themselves.

Why is kindness forgotten and shelved?

Especially now when we need it most.

Responsibility never taken, coast to coast.

Each person is too quick to boast.

Eyes need to open to the obvious truth.

All people should take an interest, including the youth.

Stand up, put the guns down, put the knives in the sheath,

You have the opportunity to bring back peace.

“Nothing can bring you peace but yourself.” — Ralph Waldo Emerson

“World peace must develop from inner peace. Peace is not mere absence of violence. Peace is,

I think, the manifestation of human compassion.” - Dalai Lama XIV
